WATER

Cyprus Water Development manages the public water supply across the island however each Municipality has its own water authority. To register with your local Municipality Offices, click here.

The current water situation in Cyprus has reached critical levels due to the lack of sufficient rain in preceding years. Dams are well below the level to meet the needs of domestic and agricultural customers and there is a heavy toll on the 2 main desalination plants already online which are located in Larnaca and Dhekelia. A portable desalination plant is due to go online from April 2009 located in Kouklia near Paphos. To check out current reservoir storage, click here.

The Water Development Department has also announced a further portable unit in Limassol, with a further 3 desalination plants due to be built (Limassol 2010, Paphos 2012 and Famagusta 2013)

To find out how you could be affected and find water saving measures, contact your local Municipality Office for advice.
